Education

I attended high school in Mercer Island, WA, obtaining my diploma in June, 2003. Upon completion I decided to apply to small liberal arts colleges to continue my education. I graduated from Pomona College in May, 2007 with a B.A. in Applied Mathematics and a B.A. in Science, Technology, and Society.

I am now in the doctoral program in Sociology at the University of California, Irvine. I joined the program at UCI with the desire to pursue a Ph.D. in sociology with a focus in social network analysis and mathematical sociology. I worked with Dr. Carter Butts and Dr. Katie Faust to complete my master's thesis and earned my M.A. in 2011 from the Institute for Mathematical Behavioral Sciences in the School of Social Sciences at UC Irvine.

I am currently a doctoral candidate and am working to complete my dissertation, "Communication and Affective Dynamics During Disaster Response and Recovery: Methods and Analysis Utilizing Large-Scale Online Data", under the direction of my dissertation committee Dr. Carter Butts (chair), Dr. Katie Faust, and Dr. Padhraic Smyth.

I am also working as a graduate student researcher and member of the Networks, Computation, and Social Dynamics research lab under Dr. Carter Butts. For more information on my current research projects please see my Research page!
