Jessica Ayo Alabi

  • In addition to the tenure-track assistant professor position, Jessica's applied sociology consulting foundation, The Hip Hop University, has also accepted a contract with 1600 Avenue, Inc., a LA-based non-profit. With this endeavor, she has been appointed as the Director of Education and Community Development, and will assist in launching the Hip Hop Leaders Program and Conference at UCLA.
    This year-round, Hip Hop-based curriculum, career and college prep program targets disadvantaged, high-risk, urban youth, who view Hip Hop as an alternative to and a way out of violent, impoverished, and oppressive circumstances.   • Both of these positions allow Jessica to continue her research, teaching, and community-based organizing around issues of urban social change. She is very excited about these opportunities, and expresses that she is grateful that her time at UCI and her dissertation have proven to be so profitable for her aspirations towards scholarship, instruction and grassroots activism.
